Nothing Wasted: Rags to Handbags

In the studio, a surprising amount of fabric is left behind — offcuts, end-of-roll remnants, the awkward triangles left behind after pattern cutting. Instead of watching them go to waste, I have been piecing them together into one-of-a-kind bags: totes, clutches and handbags sewn entirely from studio scraps.

Each piece is dictated by what is on the table that week, so no two are alike. Canvas meets houndstooth meets a strip of floral fabric from a lining. Working with what I find is the point — it forces compositions I would never have planned.

It is a small practice, but it reflects some elements of sustainability within fashion: minimizing how much material ends up in the landfill, and maintaining transparency about where it comes from.
